Shortec/Longtec basically written up for every surgical patient. Of course way lower doses than in the states we are talking 5mg / 10mg but regardless thats how it all began. I just couldn’t believe it. They did tend to discontinue it quicker but there were a good few patients that were on it for a long time. In fact I remember my dad was on a shit ton of them back in the mid to late 2010s for hip pain and I just found it so weird. In the one year I worked in NI I dispensed more oxy than I ever did in fourteen years in England. Go figure eh? What is Oxycodone perscribed for?

Pain killers are prescribed for just that, to kill pain. Oxycodone isnt exactly super crazy potent nor is it super weak either. It’s probably still one of the most common pain killer prescriptions given. Or they’re brand name, Percocet.

They are also common amongst addicts, people will smoke, inject, eat, or snort them. They’re usually expensive on the black market making them very lucrative.

In efforts to deescalate the opiate epidemic doctors have become more restrictive when prescribing opiates. They will prescribe only a 5–7 day amount versus a 30 day supply for ailments unless it requires ongoing treatment. They have also begun to prescribe a lower milligram of the drug in hopes to stop rising addiction numbers.

The doctor could prescribe Oxycodone for any sort of pain, that’s one of the problems though. Pain killers work too well at killing pain and providing a nice euphoric effect along with pain relief.
